Permanent Full-Time • 37.5 hours weekly with some evening and weekend work required inclusive.
Location: Hybrid In-office (Kitchener) 2-3 days weekly minimum.

Nutrition for Learning offers universally accessible, non-stigmatizing student nutrition programs to schools across Waterloo Region. These programs positively impact the physical, cognitive, behavioural, social, and academic needs of children and youth in our community. We are a registered charitable organization first established in 1997, and support nearly 175 student programs in all three school boards. (WRDSB -Waterloo Region District School Board, WCDSB -Waterloo Catholic District School Board and the French Language Public School Board).

The Digital Marketing & Storytelling Lead is a critical partner within our growing Impact Department as a key member of the communications team, focused on storytelling, integrated marketing, digital strategy, and impact measurement. You will play a key role in supporting a cross-departmental approach that includes the fundraising, research, and operations teams, to elevated the impact of special projects, donor stewardship, reporting and campaign development and execution.

As a key player on a small but visionary team, this role ignites data-driven community engagement tactics and innovative storytelling to increase awareness of our mission and values, as well as drive revenue-generating activities and showcase the next evolution of the school food landscape.

Job Purpose
Nutrition for Learning is at the forefront of a monumental shift in student nutrition initiatives across the province and country in response to policy changes and social demand. In Waterloo Region, we are moving towards a future where school nutrition functions as a “Food for All” model with a vision rooted in equity and sustainability and informed directly by student voices.
Your role plays a key part in helping us not only make this vision a reality, but telling the story of student nutrition to the world. By working closely with the Director and CEO to build impactful, data-driven marketing and communications strategies, you are responsible for driving authentic and dynamic storytelling that speaks directly to our schools, community, funders, and policy-makers.
Authentic, reciprocal relationship building with a range of audiences is at the core of this role. While the majority of your day-to-day tasks will be focused on working with the communications team and supporting the fundraising team, up to 20% of your time may be dedicated to special projects.
Communications
Build and improve upon our current social and digital marketing objectives.
Maintain consistent brand visual storytelling across all marketing and communications platforms.
Elevate the organization’s message, mission, and programming through innovative and integrated digital marketing tactics.
Be a key member of our cross-departmental “Food For All” pilot team, leading various channels for capturing visual and written storytelling and supporting the pilot lead and research teams with reporting and testimonial requests.
Oversee Nutrition for Learning’s website under the guidance and direction of the Director, including being involved with site improvement and redevelopment.
Under the guidance of the Director, liaise with outside agencies and freelance contractors as required.
Assist with refreshing the organizations brand story and work with internal and external team to ensure our brand guidelines are strictly maintained.
Execute a range of digital marketing tasks, including but not limited to, email communication, social media posting and engagement, content calendar management, copywriting, proofreading, editing, shooting original photos and videos, basic graphic design, building marketing campaigns from scratch as well as adapting and improving upon current marketing initiatives.
With the oversight of the Director, help lead our Google Ads strategy with an eye to integrated messaging across all platforms and campaigns, including copy, measurement, visuals, and attending monthly meetings with our Google Ads agency to help make data-drive decisions on various ROI metrics.
Be a champion for integrated digital tools and focus on streamlining processes to ensure marketing assets are published in a timely and impactful manner while upholding a strict approval process.
Come to the table with creative ideas and take the initiative to propose new strategies, experiment with emerging technologies/SaaS, and seek out new ways to demonstrate impact through visual and written storytelling.
Support various public relations tasks, including but not limited to, media outreach, writing and distributing press releases, coordinating media interviews, and leveraging media opportunities across all platforms.
Liaise with and support the leadership team on the creation of decks, proposals, presentations and other key communications pieces.
Provide weekly and monthly departmental KPI tracking and reports.
Fundraising
Support the fundraising team with donor and funder stewardship, including assets for grant applications, general communications and gratitude, visual storytelling and impact reporting.
Work directly with the fundraising lead to support and elevate the monthly donor program, The Lunch Table, including webinars, e-newsletters, and general communications.
Build and support dedicated, multiplatform fundraising campaigns with measurable impact and defined KPIs around donor acquisition, brand awareness, and specific quantifiable metrics.
Be available to support donor events, including in-school meal services and program support, third-party fundraisers, disbursement requirements, and overall be a good representative of the N4L brand in the public space.
Overarching support of the fundraising team’s marketing needs including signage, printed materials, digital assets, written assets, etc.
Be a champion of our brand messaging to ensure all material meets our standards and guidelines, specially for current and potential funders.
Special Projects
These projects will be task-based and time-bound, supporting initiatives like school program impact scale-ups, cross-departmental systems upgrades and integrations, new software on boarding and integration, special event opportunities, social enterprise activities, and more.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, as well as specialized digital marketing tools like Adobe CC, Canva, Google GA4, SquareSpace or WordPress, social media management like Later.com or HootSuite, email marketing platforms like MailChimp, Kit or Constant Contact and others.
Ability to accept and give feedback.
Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Ability and means to travel for meetings; a valid driver’s license is required.
Waterloo Region Police Check is required for all employees in order to work from time- to-time within school settings.
Qualifications:
Post-Secondary degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Experience in marketing, communications, social media or public relations.
Proven track-record with campaign development, tracking and execution.
Experience with copywriting, editing, or proofreading is required.
Some experience with graphic design, video production, or photography would be an asset.
Advanced understanding of digital marketing, engagement platforms and other SaaS or software.
Experience facilitating values-aligned storytelling.
Attention to detail and excellent project management and organization skills.
Experience with client/donor management systems like Salesforce or Raisers Edge would be an asset.
Knowledge of cause marketing and sponsorship programs.
Creative and resourceful team-player with an ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
