CATHY PITHER – Jacob Hespeler Secondary School

Nutrition for Learning’s

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Cathy Pither is a remarkable and inspiring volunteer for the Jacob Hespeler Secondary School Breakfast club.  Cathy coordinates a multitude of staff volunteers to ensure the students have a healthy start to their day, and all of this is done before her actual workday begin at school

Cathy has a unique talent to raise funds for the program and runs fundraising pizza nights as well as volunteering at fun Bingo nights with all proceeds going to the Nutrition for Learning Breakfast Program at her school.

She promotes her Nutrition for Learning breakfast program by attending evening events to promote the program, including School Council meetings, Grade 8 Welcome Night and Parent Teacher Interview Nights.

That should be enough for a normal dedicated community volunteer however she  also coaches the varsity softball team and is the time clock runner for all the home Jr. and Sr. football team games. As well in the community, she is a true Hespelerite and huge supporter of the Hespeler Community through her participation in the Hespeler Hockey Mom’s Association and fundraising for the Hespeler Hockey Association. She organized Poinsettia sales and runs the Hockey Mom Dance, and year end Hockey banquet. She is also a member of the Legion branch 272 and assists with their banquets and other Legion functions.  For more information please contact Brian Banks at bbanks@nutritionforlearning.ca or call 519-624-5744.

ABOUT NUTRITION FOR LEARNING

Nutrition for Learning provides daily access to student nutrition programs currently in 136 schools to over 23,000 students a day in Waterloo Region. The children benefiting from the program may not be stereo-typical, low-income kids.  There a lot of reasons why kids may be hungry at school but whatever the reason they are welcome to the table.
