WILL POWER – Through a gift in your will you can:

Create a meaningful legacy – Make a gift that supports the causes that are closest to your heart, ensuring that they can continue long into the future.

Conveniently convey your wishes – A gift in your will is easy to arrange and can be made for any amount you wish.

Enjoy tax savings – A gift in your will offers significant tax benefits for you and your heirs.

Including a gift in your will (bequest) for Nutrition for Learning

If you have yet to make a Will, we strongly recommend speaking with professional financial and legal advisors. If you already have a Will, you can speak with your advisors about adding a codicil (a brief instruction that is added to your Will to reflect your wishes). By leaving a gift in your will you will keep the promise of tomorrow, and all the hope that goes with it.

Other ways to leave a legacy include trust deposits, shares and mutual funds, life insurance and gift annuities. Consult your personal and professional advisors about what works best for you.

Donate Securities or Mutual Funds

Do you own securities or mutual funds that have increased in value since you bought them? Then making a direct donation of those shares is the more tax-efficient way to support Nutrition for Learninag

A direct donation of your securities or mutual fund shares adds up to a larger donation to the charities you support. That’s really good news for them. It’s also good news for you because a larger donation means a larger charitable tax receipt and that makes a difference on your own tax return at the end of the year.

This is how this donation and transaction works in detail on Canada Helps to support Nutrition for Learning HERE

Benefits of donating securities include:

Reduced taxes -When you donate securities directly to a charity, capital gains tax is eliminated, allowing you to donate more.

Instant tax receipts – You receive the charitable tax receipt for the full market value of the security upon completion of the sale.

SAMPLE WORDING

These sample clauses are intended only as illustrations and we highly
recommend that any person considering the inclusion of clauses of this type in
his or her Will should discuss with his or her own legal advisor the specifics of his
or her situation.
Percentage Gift Should you wish to leave a portion or share (e.g., 20%) of your
estate to help CAUSE OF CHARITY, your lawyer can use the following wording:
“I direct my trustees to transfer _________ percent (or share) of the residue of my
estate to the Nutrition for Learning to be used for its general purposes.”
Remainder or Residue Gift You may wish to leave the remainder or residue of
your estate, after paying debts and other bequests, to ensure that CAUSE OF
CHARITY is achieved. If so, the following wording is appropriate: “I direct my
trustees to transfer the residue of my estate to the Nutrition for Learning for its
general purposes.”
Specific Gift When your bequest is to be a specific amount of money or specific
asset, for CAUSE OF CHARITY, use one of the following clauses: “I direct my
trustees to deliver, pay or transfer the sum of $________ to the Nutrition for Learning
for its general purposes.” or “I direct my trustees to deliver, pay or transfer
[identify the personal property to be given, e.g., 500 shares of XYZ stock…] to the
Nutrition for Learning for its general purposes.”
Designated Gifts If you wish to leave a bequest in your Will and ensure that the
work of their MISSION continues, you may direct your bequest to one of the
strategic objectives or priorities of the Nutrition for Learning.

If it is your intention to designate your bequest for a specific purpose, please contact the CHARITY in
advance to ensure your gift can be used as intended. Since needs change over
time, the sample wording below helps to allow us to comply with donor wishes
easily and allows flexibility for future shifts in MISSION. “I direct my trustees to
transfer the sum of $____________ (or_______ percentage share of my estate) to the
Nutrition for Learning to be used for the following purpose(s)
___________________________. In the event that circumstances make the specific
use of this gift no longer practical or desirable, the Board of Directors of the
Nutrition for Learning is hereby authorized to make changes in its use consonant
with the spirit and general intent of the gift.” Please note: If you wish to
designate your bequest to a specific purpose, we ask you to contact the CHARITY
prior to completing your Will to ensure your gift intentions can be met.

WHY DONATE?
Many students come to school hungry or do not have food to eat. By providing a nutritious breakfast to every student, we ensure that no students are hungry when the school day begins. A healthy, well-rounded breakfast gives children the same opportunity to learn that day.

We also have morning meals which are either meals during the school day (e.g. recess time or nutrition breaks) with food bins for classrooms. With enough funding for our nutrition programs, we can even support an entire school’s morning meals!
